O2 to allow free 4G upgrades
Mobile giant O2 has made a big announcement, releasing the news that it plans to switch existing customers across to its new 4G network within the next few weeks; what is more, O2 has confirmed that it will be doing so at no additional cost.
All users who are currently in possession of a 4G compatible handset but are on a 3G contract will be switched over to the superfast network at no extra cost.
The move is an extremely positive one for consumers and follows on from similar announcements from Three and Tesco Mobile that customers with the correct hardware would become eligible for the superfast network at no extra cost.
In addition to the announcement regarding the upgrade, O2 was also able to reveal that two more towns – Brighton and St Albans – were now connected to the 4G network, taking the total number of towns and cities connected to 160 and 15 respectively.
A spokesman for O2 said: “Last December we launched some new pay monthly 4G tariffs, making it easy for customers to experience O2 4G. As part of this we’re also helping existing customers who have purchased a 4G-ready handset from us by adding our 4G service onto their 3G tariff at no extra cost, so they can experience some of the great benefits of O2 4G. We’re contacting those customers now and over the coming weeks to let them know about getting 4G.”
This news will no doubt be positively received.
