EE’s 4G milestone
EE’s roll-out of 4G services has hit another milestone after the North Wales town of Rhyl gained the distinction of being the 200th town to be able to access the service in the UK.
In addition to Rhyl, a number of other towns were switched on to the service over the same weekend. These include Bishop Auckland, Armdale, Brighouse, Larne, Newry, Staines, Washington and Stockton-on-Tees.
This latest batch of towns to be upgraded to 4G services means that almost three-quarters of the population now have access, with 72% of the population now in a 4G area. EE is still ahead of O2, which has rolled out 4G services to more than 190 towns since August 2013.
The CEO of EE, Olaf Swantee, has stated that the company now has more than two million customers with 4G services, saying it is the “fastest roll-out and uptake of any technology in Britain”. This also means that the mobile infrastructure of the UK is moving ahead of that of other countries, and EE is planning to continue in the current vein.
Mr Swantee also stated that this particular milestone is important as it reinforces EE’s commitment to provide 4G services to the whole country, and more people can now use these services wherever they are. More and more people are using the services at home, at work, and when they are out and about. The roll-out is set to continue and more towns will be added to the service in the near future.
