The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus released
Hundreds of people spent hours queuing to be among the first to buy one of the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus handsets.
Queues formed outside the Apple store in London’s Regent Street, with some people setting up camp three days in advance of the handsets going on sale. Apple opened the store two hours earlier than usual, as it generally does on the day of a new launch, to help cope with the expected demand. Apple CEO Tim Cook has described the new handsets as the “most advanced ever”.
The new handsets are also available from all major mobile phone service providers, including Three, Vodafone, Virgin Media, EE and O2. The iPhone 6s pricing starts at £539 and the iPhone 6s Plus will start at £619. Customers can opt for one of four metal finishes: gold, silver, gunmetal grey and a soft rose gold.
Despite the queues, there were not as many people waiting as there were last year when a new handset was launched. It is estimated that 1,000 people were waiting when the doors opened in Regent Street last year, with one customer confirming that this year’s queue was much shorter than when the company launched the iPhone 6 in 2014. Mo Ali said he had queued for hours last year; however, this year he joined the queue much later and was served much sooner.
Those queuing were divided into different sections depending upon whether they had pre-ordered their handset.
