EE-top-again-in-Ofcom-performance-tests

EE has been named the top performer after Ofcom carried out a series of tests in London in March.

Mobile broadband speeds were tested by the regulator in a number of tests carried out over five days. EE was named as the top performer as a result. Ofcom has just published the Smartphone Cities report with the details of the tests.

A number of different areas of London were examined, and both download and upload speeds were taken into consideration. A Samsung Galaxy S6 device was used. This is also referred to as a Cat-6 device – a phone that has the right hardware for access to the faster speeds. Other Cat-6 devices on the market include the iPhone 6s and the Blackberry Priv.

The average 4G download speed for EE was 31.9Mbps. Vodafone was next with a speed of 19.9Mbps, while Three managed an average speed of 10.2Mbps; O2 trailed at 6.5Mbps. The average upload speed for EE was 24.2Mbps. Vodafone again came in second with a speed of 15.2Mbps, Three was again third at 11.6Mbps and O2 was last at 8.4Mbps.

Another test was how quickly a person could download the BBC homepage on each of the networks. EE took just 3.3 seconds, Vodafone took 3.4 seconds, O2 took 4.2 seconds and Three was in last place with 4.3 seconds.

EE has welcomed the results of the tests and said that it is due to the increased investment being made to allow for more capacity for users on the network.
