EE has best 4G coverage of nearly all major UK cities
According to a report by mobile testing company RootMetrics, EE has the best 4G coverage of almost all major UK cities.
RootMetrics evaluated the extent of 4G coverage by EE, Vodafone, Three and O2 in 14 cities: Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Bradford, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Nottingham and Sheffield. The study found that EE’s coverage is clearly superior to its competitors in every city except Edinburgh, where coverage by EE, Vodafone and O2 is within 3% of one another.
In 11 of the 14 cities tested, EE’s coverage exceeds 90%, with Glasgow at 89.4%, Edinburgh at 89.1% and Cardiff at 86.5%. By comparison, O2 and Vodafone only exceed 90% coverage in three cities: Belfast, Liverpool and Manchester. Three’s best coverage is in Manchester (81.7%), and its coverage ranks last in all 14 areas tested.
The report found that Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham have the best 4G coverage from all four carriers, while London has some of the worst.
Scott Stonham, the General Manager at RootMetrics, said: “We know there’s quite a difference between what operators might tell you the signal is in your area and whether you are actually able to use that coverage.
“If you’re going into a shop to buy a 4G phone, when you get home you want that 4G phone to work, and this report is telling the customers that if you’re worried about 4G or if 4G coverage is something that is important to you, then these are the operators that will give you the broadest coverage in those areas.”
