EE customers can enjoy free Amazon Prime Video for six months
EE has announced that millions of its customers on pay-monthly plans will get a free six-month subscription to both the MTV Play and Amazon Prime Video streaming services.
EE said that the offer comes with inclusive data, meaning that users can stream content from either service with no impact on their monthly allowance of data.
This offer is the latest sign that smartphone users are increasing the use of their mobile devices to stream film and TV content. This observation is in keeping with the Cisco Visual Networking Index report released last year predicting that video will constitute up to 79% of mobile data traffic worldwide by 2022.
EE also announced the launch of a new service called Video Data Pass. The service will have a monthly cost of £8.99 and will allow users to stream TVPlayer, BT Sport and Netflix without impacting their data allowance. EE is making the flexible pass available on a 30-day rolling contract.
The telecoms company is also expected to be among the first firms to begin making 5G network technology available sometime this year. The new technology is expected to provide data speeds that are several times faster than those currently available with 4G service. 5G will also handle more data with less lag, which will allow for a higher quality of video streaming on mobile devices.
EE customers can activate their six-month subscription to MTV and Prime Video by texting “MTV” or “Prime” to 150 using their EE phones. Customers must activate the deal by 11 September 2019.
