Apple releases emergency security fix for iPhones, Macs and iPads
Apple has urged iPhone, iPad and Mac users to update their software to fix major security flaws that could allow hackers to take full control of affected devices.
Apple released the update for iOS, iPad OS and Mac OS last week after it acted on a report that the issue may have been “actively exploited”.
It appears that users are at risk when they access maliciously crafted content on the web on Apple devices.
Tech news site TechCrunch says that malicious applications can “execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges”.
In layman’s terms, this enables hackers to fully access a device.
However, Apple has not revealed specifically how users would be affected if this vulnerability was exploited.
What is certain is that the issue is potentially very serious for Apple users.
For this reason, security experts have advised users to update to the latest software as a matter of urgency.
Apple has released a fix for iOS 15 that is available on all iPhone models after the 6s, and newer MacBooks and iMacs that run Mac OS Monterey.
There is also an update for iPads and even the seventh-gen iPod Touch.
A report from the BBC has suggested that people should get into the habit of checking their settings to find and install the latest updates on connected devices.
A better option is turning on automatic updates so that the latest security updates are downloaded and installed.
The latest issue comes just several weeks before Apple is expected to launch its latest line of iPhone models.
