OpenAI has launched a new AI-powered search engine called SearchGPT, which will deliver real-time information and links to users.

OpenAI says it’s combining the conversational capabilities of its large language models with real-time data to make the content it serves more relevant and the whole process “faster and easier”.

Google currently dominates the search engine market space with a colossal market share.

However, OpenAI took a shot at its rival by saying that users often have to make “multiple” searches to get what they need.

SearchGPT wants the static search experience to evolve by providing a more in-depth summary of topics and allowing users to ask follow-up questions.

OpenAI used one example of a “music festivals in boone north carolina in august” search query to showcase its UI.

Here, users will be presented with short descriptions of upcoming events and a sidebar with articles covering the festivals in detail.

A spokesperson said: “Responses have clear, in-line, named attribution and links so users know where information is coming from and can quickly engage with even more results in a sidebar with source links.”

SearchGPT is just at the “prototype” stage for now and will only be available to around 10,000 users at launch.

However, it is expected to become part of ChatGPT soon.

It’s now been more than 18 months since OpenAI rolled out its chatbot and started the current craze for all things artificial intelligence.

The company, backed heavily by Microsoft, owns a range of powerful AI models, including GPT4, DALL-E, and Sora.
