EE launches free roaming in 47 countries
UK mobile operator EE has announced that it will eliminate roaming charges in 47 countries from 15th June. Both pay-monthly and pay-as-you-go customers will be able to make calls, send texts and use their data plans as if they were still in the UK when travelling in these countries.
The date coincides with the effective date of the European Commission’s ban on roaming charges in the 28 countries that comprise the EU. The additional 19 countries covered by EE’s new tariff plan include Guernsey, Iceland, the Isle of Man, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway and Switzerland.
EE also announced that it will launch several new 4GEE Max plans on 10th May. Customers on these plans will incur no roaming charges in 52 countries, which include Australia, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and the US in addition to the 47 countries mentioned above.
Marc Allera, EE’s CEO said: “Our customers want to be able to stay connected whether they’re travelling around the UK or abroad. We go further to provide our customers with 4G in more places across the UK than any other operator, and we’re offering inclusive roaming in more destinations as well – so our customers can stay in touch whether they’re lying on a beach in the Mediterranean, checking out the latest restaurants in New York or hiking in New Zealand.”
EE is not the only mobile carrier that has announced tariffs with inclusive roaming fees. Vodafone has announced new tariffs that eliminate roaming fees in 40 countries, while Three’s Feel at Home plans offer service with no roaming fees in 42 countries worldwide, including Australia and the US.
