Thinking about upgrading to Apple’s iPhone 11?
Rumours about the proposed iPhone 11 models have been around since January. Since the initial leaks, speculation has increased that Apple plans to update every current model in its smartphone line, meaning that upgraded versions of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR are expected to hit the market in September.
However, the latest rumours suggest that Apple is planning major changes for the iPhone in 2020, so it may be worth skipping an upgrade to the iPhone 11 and keeping your current mobile for another year. To help you decide, here is a brief summary of the expected iPhone models for the rest of 2019 and why waiting until 2020 may be a better option.
iPhone 11
The iPhone 11 is expected to be a direct upgrade to Apple’s current iPhone XS. Leaked material indicates that the iPhone 11 will look very similar to the iPhone XS, with a 5.8-inch screen and a notch at the top. The iPhone 11 is rumoured to have an upgraded front camera and an enhanced rear camera system featuring a primary, an ultra-wide-angle and a telephoto lens. The model is also expected to have an upgraded processor and possibly increased RAM. It is not clear if any new colours for the shell will be on offer.
iPhone 11 Max
According to the leaks, the iPhone 11 Max will feature a 6.5-inch screen just like the iPhone XS Max. This model is also expected to feature the same rear-facing triple-camera system that is anticipated for the iPhone 11 but is expected to have a higher battery capacity. In essence, the iPhone 11 Max appears to be very much like the iPhone 11 but with a larger screen.
iPhone 11R
The iPhone 11R is also rumoured to have changes in its camera system, but it will only have a rear-facing two-camera system (a primary and a telephoto sensor but no ultra-wide-angle lens) rather than a three-camera system. The front of the iPhone 11R is rumoured to have the same display as the iPhone XR, which means it could have a 6.1-inch LCD panel. Overall, the appearance of the iPhone 11R is expected to be very similar to the iPhone XR, so it is expected that it will be composed of glass and aluminium.
The 2020 iPhone concept
A recent leak posted on Twitter by industry insider Ice Universe stated that Apple is planning to outfit its 2020 iPhones with the company’s most radical display ever. It will combine the premium iPhone’s OLED panels with the 120Hz ProMotion technology used in the iPad Pro’s LCD display to produce the greatest upgrade in many generations of the real-world experience of iPhone users. The difference in fluidity and touch response is huge, and the viewing experience is also much better for your eyes.
This change will make the user experience of any previous iPhone generation feel outdated. In addition, the 2020 iPhones will feature 3D camera technology, a new design and integrated 5G technology, which is lacking in the iPhone 11.
While the iPhone 11 will be an acceptable upgrade to the iPhone XS, it’s not terribly exciting. The choice of whether to wait until 2020 to upgrade your iPhone is up to you, but you might regret not waiting.
