Nokia introduces new 90s-inspired feature phones
Whether you’re nostalgic for the 90s, want to take a social media detox or are simply looking for a budget phone with a classic look, Nokia’s new ‘dumb phones’ fit the bill.
The retro Nokia 130 and Nokia 150 are feature phones that lack the online connectivity of smartphones but still have a lot to offer.
With physical keyboards and a solid, durable build, the models are reminiscent of the iconic Nokia 8210, initially launched in 1999 but still in circulation well into the 2010s.
As with the phones that inspired them, the new Nokia models feature many features that don’t require an online connection to work.
You can use them to make and receive calls – one feature that sees less use on modern smartphones with a range of apps and instant messaging options.
There’s also a built-in FM radio, MP3 player and audio jack, while the Nokia 130 has a speaker on the back that the manufacturer says will provide “loud audio”.
The other main difference between the two new phones is that the 130 doesn’t have a camera of any kind.
The 150 does have a built-in camera, although at a mere 0.3 megapixels, it’s not going to compete with next-gen or even reasonably old smartphones.
Of course, those smartphones will tend to cost hundreds of pounds, while the new Nokia feature phones will be closer to £40.
They’re not for everyone but they do have a retro appeal and could be a good option for those considering a digital detox.
