EE Superfast 4G available in 50 towns and cities
Everything Everywhere’s new 4G service is now available in more than 50 towns and cities across the UK.
The mobile phone and broadband service provider, the first to launch the 1,800mhz super-fast mobile broadband back in October 2012, has rolled out the 4G network to another 13 locations this week, bringing the total number to over fifty.
The towns benefiting from the new network include Bradford, Doncaster, Bingley, Harpenden, Dudley, Leicester, Loughborough, Lichfield, Shipley, St Albans, West Bromwich, Luton and Reading. The network provider has said that the 4G network is now available to over 50% of the UK’s population and that it has a target of 80% coverage when another 30 towns go live over the next quarter.
According to the company, 4G has the capability of reaching speeds up to five times faster than the 3G network and will make streaming movies and videos on mobiles much easier. Average speeds being seen by customers on home and business mobiles are believed to be in the 16mb region, with the absolute peak speeds clocking in at around 50mb.
The CEO of EE, Olaf Swantee, noted that in reaching fifty towns and cities and 50% of the population, his company had reached two major milestones. He commented, “We’re remaining ahead of our schedule to equip UK consumers and businesses with 4G,” adding, “Our customers are at the heart of our rollout and we are working hard to deliver 4G to 70% of the UK population by the end of this year and 98% of the population by the end of 2014.”
